Mathieu Does A Mitzvah: Habs Win 4-3 in OT

Oy, did that victory give me nachas....
Mr. Schneider is a mensch.  I will leave it at that.
So what if Alex Kovalev's ancestors probably pillaged and raped all the women in the shtetl that Schneider's Bubbie and Zayda were from, they worked together and got the Bleu Blanc Rouge a  big two points.  Pleks continued his torrid pace and Boom-Shack-Halak made some key saves... So while you're reading this, raise a glass to  Matty S and the rest of the Habs and give them a big "L'CHAIM"
GO HABS GO

Glen Metropolit is Bad Ass

Sources say that Glen Metropolit has been plucked off waivers from the Philadelphia Flyers, who incidentally are playing the Habs tonight at 7:00 PM.  Might even play.  He grew up in Inner-City Toronto, lived around Drug-Dealers and Gangsters and his brother Troy is serving 16 years for kidnapping a wealthy Toronto couple in 1999.
I don't know about you guys, but that's pretty badass.
Definitley brings more edge than Steve Begin.

Begin traded for Doug Janik

NO WHY DID BOB DO THIS. HOW COULD THIS BE. SCREW DOUG JANIK.   EVEN THOUGH YOU'VE NEVER SCORED MORE THAN 12 GOALS IN A YEAR....I LOVED YOUR EFFORT...YOUR EFFORT HELPED THE TEAM SO MUCH.....THE ONLY REASON WE DIDN'T LOSE EVERY GAME IN FEBRUARY WAS BECAUSE OF YOUR EFFORT. I LOVE YOU STEVE.  BECAUSE BOB DID THIS IM GOING TO CHEER FOR THE STARS. BECAUSE I'D RATHER A 5'11 GRINDER THAN A 6'2 DEFENSEMAN ANY DAY OF THE WEEK.
I WILL ALWAYS HOLD A PLACE IN MY HEART FOR YOU STEVE.
Even though you penalty in Game 5 against the Flyers led to the series winning goal?
I promise you this deal is not going to make a difference.
Heart is nice, but it's not gunna help us in the Playoffs.
Freeing up Cap Space for possibly a larger deal at the Deadline?  Can't Complain Bob.
Go Habs Go?

Trade Deadline Preview

Listen Up Y'all, This Is It
Something, Something, Something, Fergielicious...

Anyway. The trade deadline is officially 6 Days, 1 Hour, 59 Minutes and 5 Seconds away. The Canadiens are coming off one of the worst losing streaks in our 100 year history but look superhuman of late.  So you can be sure that Canadiens Fans will be split between Dumb Fans...and um... I guess the other dumb fans.
This is a dialogue that will definitely go down in most schools/office buildings across most of Southern Quebec.

Jaw-Dropingly Smart Fan #1:  Dude.  The Habs are sooo good now.  Halak is soo incredible.  We should definitely trade Price, Subban, a #1 Pick and Tanguay for Lecavalier.  Tanguay played so crappy last game vs. The Canucks (We're going to assume that this "die hard Habs fan" does not know Tanguay has been out since late 2008.)

Jaw-Droppingly Smart Fan #2: Dude, eff that.  The Habs are so shitty.  We should send have never traded Cristobal Huet in the first place...so what we've won 2 in a row... Schneider is soo old his first purchase of Cialis must have been in 1965.   We're not going to do squat in the Playoffs, Carbo should have been fired after the Oiler game, and Bob Gainey is a mook.

No idea what a mook is, but it sounds like if someone called you that, you'd be offended.
So there you have it, it seems that half of the Habs fans are like that douchey kid in Grade Two with the huge glasses that seems to rat on you for everything you do, and the other half are the Kids who sit in the back, can't read and eat glue.
So what the hell should we ask for?
Let me get this out in the open.  So that I do not have to address it ever again.
THE CANADIENS WILL NEVER GET VINCENT LECAVALIER.  NO MATTER WHAT LA PRESSE SAYS. NO MATTER HOW MUCH THE THOUGHT OF A FRENCH CANADIAN SUPERSTAR IN BLEU-BLANC-ROUGE MIGHT GIVE THE ENTIRE PROVINCE A STIFFY.
It ain't gonna happen.

Although I do not think that Bob Gainey is done trading, there is not a large chance we land a big player.  I'm pretty sure Moses Schneider has addressed the need of a Power Play Quarterback for now, so It would be reckless to offer a huge deal for Jay Bouwmeester, and since the Panthers are actually in a position to make the Playoffs this year, it looks like they would only part ways with Jay Bo for a player who could make a huge impact immediately. With the way the Canadiens have been playing this month, would ANY player on this team sound like an appropriate replacement for him?  That's a big ass "non".  If you still think we need a puck moving defenseman, then maybe you should lower your expectations to a player like Thomas Kaberle.  The Leafs are definitely sellers. So they could deal for a little less than Florida will ask for.

I would personally want this:  The Canadiens have been absolutely bum raped by injuries this year and now more than ever we need depth.   Of course I would love for a big time player to come here, but I'm being realistic.

Keith Tkachuk is a name that has been mentioned in every single trade deadline since 2001, and it's still very possible that he could have a new home at least for the rest of the 09' season. A proven grit player, Tkachuk has 35 points this year and could play a huge role on a team's playoff run.  Keith has a No Trade Clause but could very well waive it.

Ryan Smyth is known to be a very complete player who will be pursued greatly at the deadline.  He has 50 points in 61 games this year with the Avalanche and saves his best hockey for the playoffs, as he was a key factor in the Oilers 2006 Stanley Cup Finals run.  Smyth also has a NTC but the Colorado Avalanche are dead last in the West.  And I would be surprised if he decides to stick with them.

Finally on my list of  "hopeful-Habs" at the trade deadline is Marian Gaborik
"WTF ARE YOU SAYING WE COULD HAVE GOTTEN HIM IN OCTOBER BUT THE DEAL WAS HIGGINS PLEKANEC AND HALAK AND HALAK IS GOD.  SO YOURE RETARDED."

In October, Gaborik was healthy and poised to have a big season.  Unfortunately, he has been out of the lineup since mid-October, but that's not necessarily a bad thing if you are trying to acquire him.  Because Gabby is on the shelf, it is a known fact that the return for him will be much less costly than it was at the start of the season.  Plekanec has been playing like a man on fire and Carbo plans on riding Halak until he loses.  Higgins has been contributing but I still would not mind seeing him go.  But if you are a fan of economics, maybe trading Halak will make sense.  It is the simple idea of "selling high".
THAT'S SO STUPID PRICE IS SO BRUTAL AND HALAK IS THE ONLY CHANCE WE HAVE OF MAKING THE PLAYOFFS.
But wait just a minute, last season at the deadline, Bob Gainey sent Cristobal Huet to the Capitals and the pack of Hyenas that are the Montreal Media thought that Price would flail under pressure.
He thrived under pressure and went 12-4.
Could it happen again?
Go Habs?

OMG HALAK IS OUR SAVIOUR

Dear all fellow mega-super-ultra Hab fans,
HOLY GODBALLS DID YOU SEE THE GAME TONIGHT!!!
Hoooly Jeez 3-0!
Someone come break into the Ste. Catharines Foot Locker with me for old time sakes!!
The drive for twentyfive is alive like my Incredible dancing Grandmother after too many scotches at Shabbas Dinner.
Like OOOHH MY GOOOD.  WHY DID WE EVER LET CAREY PRICE STEP FOOT IN THE STORIED ANNALS OF THE BELL CENTRE.  AHAH, Annals.
Like, Just imagine if Bob Gainey didn't draft him.
We could have this amazing team, that if you take out the entire month of February...would be like 203-3-2.  And Bob could've drafted a talented French Canadian like Gilbert Brule foward to add to our already vaunted Collection of Steve Begin, Patrice Brisebois and many other stars.
Brule is currently RIPPING shit up in the AHL, with a spectacular 19 points this year for the Springfield Falcons.  Like, I'm just saying...I LOVE THE CANADIENS, LOVE ALEX KOVALEV AND LOVE BOB GAINEY AND EVERYTHING HE'S DONE.

Of course this is until we lose and this same intellectual places a Jihad on Carbo and co.
Go Habs???
